My nephew Griffin's first organized baseball league game! How many pitches have you thrown and shagged for Grif' to prepare for this day Grady??????;) There is so much more fun and competition to come for Griffin in the future. Lets not put any pressure but.. your Dad and Uncle played some good first base and played on some great teams, I hope that Griffin has the same type of teammates, support (Mom&Dad), coaches and love for the game that we had. Baseball was more than just a sport as I think Grady would agree (I remember him constantly throwing and fielding a tennis ball off a shed in our first house on Franklin Street) when we grew up and I hope Griffin finds that passion whatever the endeavour. I know Grif' will have the competitive spirit and learn the lessons that can only be learned through competition (both wins and loses) thanks to his Dad's efforts in the back yard tossing pitch after pitch after pitch after pitch after pitch after pitch....:) Great job Grady!!!!!

So this is for Grammy....it is our online picture diary so we can share our lives with all the family who cannot make it out here.

This is a portion of our backyard. Our house backs national forest, so we have a lot of room to play!

When you look off of the back deck, you see this little pond (about 4 feet to 5 feet in diameter with a loud waterfall and a stream that travels under our deck:

This is a picture of our home from the driveway. All that snow on the roof falls right on the deck and walkway...not much fun to shovel that!

Poor Lola...she really wants to come out and play!

This is our second bedroom. Ryan calls it the "Man Cave." He keeps his computer, books, and telescope in here. Soon we'll get another bed for guests

Here's the kitchen, I cleaned it up a bit but I still have cooking to do. It'll be messy in no time!

This is our little dining room. It is an open 1st floor so the living room couch separates the living room and dining room. The table is cool. It's made out of slate and granite...

This is the living room. A little cramped with the huge tree! We turn the flood lights on at night so we can see the snowfall. Haven't seen a moose or bear walk through yet!

It's not Christmas without the Nativity. It is on my old toybox. We put all our gloves and hats in it now. Hopefully soon, I can put REAL toys in it....

...And the stockings were hung by the fire with care...

The dogs love looking out back for unsuspecting chipmunks...that's Sarah Bailey's golden retriever, Ben.

This is "the perch." We can take the railings off most of the deck.. It makes it easier to shovel all the snow off. The dogs like it so they can see the action of the highway...I strung up lights all around the deck. It's real pretty at night

Under the mound of snow is a fake campfire, powered by propane. Maxx thinks it's a pee-post! It is really nice to sit around it in the fall under starry skies. In the back is our hot tub. We put lights around that too and hung Christmas balls that Marlene gave me years ago. Looks pretty at night! We like sitting in the hot tub when it is snowing. We'll wear tukes so we don't get cold. It is chilly running the 20 feet from there into the house, though!

Horseshoe for good luck...

Horseshoes

The horseshoe is considered very lucky and used to be hung in many homes to protect and attract good fortune for the family residing inside. As with many superstitions, there are contradictions to be found with the beliefs associated with the horseshoe. For instance, many believe that to hang it with the ends pointing upwards is good luck as it acts as a storage container of sorts for any good luck that happens to be floating by, whereas to hang it with the ends pointing down, is bad luck as all the good luck will fall out. Others believe that no matter which way you hang the horseshoe, good luck will come. According to this superstition, the ends-pointing-down display simply means that the good luck is able to flow out and surround the home. If the horseshoe is hung over a doorway, ends up will catch good luck and ends down will let the good luck spill over the door and stop evil from entering. Perhaps a combination of the two was used so that after a few days, when the horseshoe was filled with good luck, it would then need to be emptied so that residents could benefit from that luck and the process would be repeated until the end of time.

So we went back to the town of Hessie again. We stopped on the way home to Boulder Falls. Pretty neat. Those are the first pics. The 2nd pic was of a guy "rock hopping." Just goes to show you the size of the rocks. He was about 100 yards from us!!! The big mountains were a climbing "hot spot" for those with a death wish.
Check out the other pic. It's of a rock many climb.
We found an old settlers' cabin on the way off the trail on the way back from hiking The Lost Lake trail. The waterfalls are within earshot of the cabin...pretty neat!
When we arrived at Lost Lake, there was a goose with her gosslings. Bella was curious but Maxx was disinterested. Don't think he could see them in their camoflauge!!!

If you look close, you'll see that the two rocks stacked on eachother look like they're about to topple on the road! Pretty scary!

Conquering new territory

So we took a new route past Eldora (ski area) to a town by the name of Hessie. Well, technically, it does not exist because it was a township back in the mining days. At the end of the trail is a lake called "Lost Lake." Those are the 1st pics. You can see some ruins and you'll see the remains of an old mine...(click on the picture and you can click on ant for a close up!)
Some claim these waterfalls are some of the best in the country... you be the judge!!
We even got to see our first moose!!!
